Safety, Installation, and Care Instructions for SWATHER DRAPERS

Safety Instructions:

  1. Be sure all operational power is turned off.
  2. Read the operator’s manual for any safety procedures to follow.
  3. Do not wear loose clothing that could become entangled in the belting or drive system.
  4. Be sure all guards and safety devices are in place before and during operation.

Before Installation:

  1. Be sure all operational power is turned off.
  2. Check all bearings for movement without drag or noise.
  3. Check for bent or broken rollers and replace as required. Free all rollers of rust and foreign material build-up.
  4. Eliminate catch points, weld splatters and sharp metal edges.

Installation:

  1. Install the drapers making sure it travels in the direction indicated by the "DIRECTION OF TRAVEL" arrow.
  2. Make sure the HEADS of the connector bolts face the direction indicated by the "DIRECTION OF TRAVEL" arrow.
  3. Fasten the MIDDLE of the draper first. Work evenly outward toward each edge. Make sure fastener bar is square on the draper.
  4. Adjust tail end flaps EVENLY. Flaps must be square within the line on draper.
  5. Remove excess material from tail end flaps. To prevent noisy slapping effect during operation, trim tail end flaps to one inch after fastener bar has been tightened.
  6. Do not draw draper too tight or excessive wear and stretching will occur. Rub-R-Slat Xtraâ , Rub-R-Slatâ , and Rub-R-Kingâ drapers should be operated with LESS tension than other types of drapers.
  7. Drapers, unlike belts, will tend to creep toward the slack side of the roller. If distance "A" is less than distance "B" the draper will tend to run toward the high side of the roller carriage. If distance "A" is greater than "B" the draper will run toward the low side of the roller carriage.
  8. When adjusting the roller carriage, always keep the rollers parallel with each other . For best results, measure roller ends diagonally across roller carriage making sure that the distance for point "C" to "D" is EQUAL to distance for point "E" to "F".

Care after Installation:

  1. Drapers should be REMOVED when the machine is not to be used, or if it is exposed to weather for an EXTENDED period of time. Roller rust and deterioration’s caused by decaying materials, accelerated by wet conditions, can result in premature draper failure.
  2. Store drapers in a protected, dry place.
  3. On self-propelled swather using two drapers of equal size, ALTERNATE drapers PERIODICALLY to even wear and extend draper life.
  4. Before re-installing draper for the next season, EXAMINE fastener bar connectors closely. REPLACE bent or broken connectors immediately to prevent draper damage.
  5. Remember LEGG COMPANY Swather/Windrower Drapers are specially designed for this application. Special materials and quality craftsmanship make LEGG COMPANY Drapers excellent replacement product that meet or exceed O.E.M. requirements.

Safety, Installation, and Care Instructions for BALER BELTING

For upper bands and lower platform aprons.

A few minutes of your time can prevent premature belt failure and costly downtime.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Read the operator’s manual for any safety procedures to follow.
  2. Don not wear loose clothing that could become entangled in the belting or drive system.
  3. Be sure all guards and safety devices are in place before and during operation.

BEFORE INSTALLATION:

  1. Be sure all operational power is turned off.
  2. Always use the same ply construction for all belts. 2-ply and 3-ply constructions do not react in the same manner under tension. Use of different ply construction will create and unequal load situation and the baler will not perform properly.
  3. Check all bearing for movement without drag or noise. Lubricate or replace as required.
  4. Check for bent or broken rollers and replace as required. Free all rollers of rust and foreign material build-up.
  5. Eliminate catch points, weld splatters and sharp metal edges.
  6. Replace all worn belts at the same time.
  7. Resize all belts, new and old, to equal lengths for maximum load distribution.

Note: Resize all belts between each bailing season.

Installation:

  1. Install belt following "Direction of Travel" arrow. (End with 45° corners and the least number or hooks is the leading end. End with square-cut corners the trailing end).
  2. After threading a belt through the machine, pull ends together. Insert connecting pin through the lacing hooks making sure the hooks on both ends alternate (Trailing end should have hooks on both outside edges).
  3. After inserting the connecting pin completely, bend approximately ¼" of the straight end at a 90° angle to match the other end.

Installation: Lower Platform Aprons

  1. Clean V-Guide slot on pulleys. (Note: International Harvester models do not have V-Guides.
  2. Install belt following "Direction of Travel" arrow.
  3. After threading belt through machine, pull end together. Make sure hook on both ends alternate. (Trailing end should have hooks on both outside edges).
  4. If Clipperâ lacing is used, insert leader wire attached to cable, through hooks. Do not jerk on leader wire or it will come off. After cable is in place, remove leader wire, attach retaining nut and crimp it. If Minetâ lacing is used, install pin and bend approximately ¼" of straight end at a 90° angle.
  5. Run baler momentarily to check for proper tracking, adjust as necessary.

Care After Installation:

  1. Take up roller adjustment to recommended tension. (Important: Check your baler’s operating manual for proper tension adjustment. Note: It is especially important to leave the recommended slack in the belts on Vicon, McKee, New Idea and corresponding Case IH models. A belt adjusted too tight will have a shorter service life).
  2. Check you belts, belt lacing, and pin occasionally during use. Make repairs or replacements as required. (Note: The lacing and connecting pin are your belts’ weakest points. Proper maintenance is critical to your baler’s overall performance).
  3. Resize all belts and replace as necessary between bailing seasons. Check you baler thoroughly before starting your next bailing season.
  4. Remember LEGG COMPANY Baler Belts are specially design for large round balers. Special materials and quality craftsmanship make LEGG COMPANY Baler Belts excellent replacement products that meet or exceed O.E.M. requirements.
