A conveyor belt is basically one or more plies of fabric carrying a load while being pulled along a support mechanism. The strength of the belt, it's ability to trough, load support, and tracking are all dependent on the fabric. Rubber is used to bond or laminate multiple plies of fabric for increased performance. The fabric plies and the skims of rubber that bond the plies form the carcass. Rubber covers may be used to protect the carcass. Legg Company offers a variety of carcass selections to chose from. Customers may choose from fabrics of Polyester, Nylon, Cotton, or a blend such as Polyester/Nylon or Cotton/Nylon. Legg Company believes in giving the end user and distributor the ability to custom engineer products to suit exacting applications. Legg Company has standard belt carcasses already formulated with exacting carcass constructions for the more common applications. For applications requiring a different belt, contact us, we'd love to provide your ultimate belt.
TIGER®
POLYESTER WARP -- POLYESTER FILL -- PLAIN WEAVE
The polyester warp yarns of the TIGER yield great strength with a minimum of stretch. The TIGER is ideal when take-up is in short supply or when excessive stretch causes the belt to be cut and hot spliced again, costing time and money. Superior tracking is another great benefit of the polyester warp yarns of the TIGER. The polyester fill yarns gives the belt good lateral stiffness and increased load support. The TIGER carcass has excellent chemical resistance and has good heat resistance. The all polyester carcass resists moisture absorption, allowing the TIGER to run even in submerged applications without the carcass distorting. Polyester retains more of its dry tensile strength when wet than other fabrics. The TIGER carcass is manufactured using high grade compounds with high elongation and high adhesion properties. Since polyester is more stable than nylon when subjected to extreme temperature fluctuations or moisture, it is superior for fabrication involving hot vulcanization. The TIGER is available in a 75 lb*., and 110 lb*., rated fabrics. The TIGER is one versatile carcass at home in varied conditions.
* Maximum Allowable Working Tension is based on a safety factor of 10:1 vs. actual break tensile in a cured 3 ply belt sample.

GRIZZLY®
POLYESTER WARP -- NYLON FILL -- PLAIN WEAVE
NOW WITH S&Z TWIST
Our number one carcass! The
GRIZZLY incorporates a powerful carcass of polyester warp yarns and
nylon fill yarns. The GRIZZLY has been
engineered for maximum performance in a wide range of applications.
The polyester warp yarns give the GRIZZLY
great strength while keeping stretch to a minimum. Stretch can be critical in applications such as machinery
where take-up is short. Minimal
stretch can save money if other belts stretch past the allowable take-up and a
section of the belt must be removed and the belt spliced again. The GRIZZLY carcass is easy to track and train due to the polyester
warp yarns. Polyester maintains more of its dry tensile strength when wet than
other yarns so the GRIZZLY is well suited for unprotected applications.
Polyester has excellent chemical resistance and will not weaken or
stretch under chemical deterioration.
The
nylon fill yarns of the GRIZZLY enhance
performance. The
GRIZZLY is resistant to
ripping and tearing due to the nylon fill yarns.
The nylon fill yarns will also provide excellent retention for mechanical
fasteners. Nylon fill yarns are supple, allowing for a more flexible belt.
This flexibility will allow the belt
to trough under lighter loads.
The additional strength of the nylon fill will increase the impact
resistance of the belt.
The GRIZZLY
carcass incorporates the Legg standard high elongation and high adhesion
compounds for the skims.
It is available in a 125* lb. and 225*
lb. rated fabric.
The GRIZZLY is one strong, agile carcass.
* Maximum
Allowable Working Tension is based on a safety factor of 10:1 vs. actual break
tensile in a cured 3 ply belt sample.

KODIAK®
POLYESTER WARP -- NYLON FILL -- CROWFOOT WEAVE
The KODIAK
incorporates a polyester warp yarn and a nylon fill yarn for peak strength, low
stretch and excellent tracking. The
Poly/Nylon construction yields all the benefits of Legg’s GRIZZLY Poly/Nylon carcass with a lot of added values! What
separates the KODIAK from other
polyester warp, nylon fill carcasses? The
KODIAK carcass is woven utilizing a
crowfoot weave technique. The crowfoot weave consist of three alternating yarns
instead of just two like in a plain weave.
These yarns go over and under two cross (fill) yarns instead of just one
like in a plain weave. This gives
the KODIAK carcass mechanical
shock absorption not found in traditional plain weave fabrics.
This allows the belt to take the heavy impact of applications such as log
handling that, in the past, have been reserved for all nylon belting.
The crowfoot weave of the KODIAK
will provide impact resistance you will not find in plain weave Poly/Nylon
carcasses. Other benefits are
increased puncture resistance due to the increased amount of fabric weight per
square foot over plain or oxford weaves. Additionally,
the nylon fill yarns in conjunction with the crowfoot weave increases the
belt’s resistance to ripping and tearing.
The KODIAK economically
improves the performance of your belt with out the problems that an all Nylon
belt will cause such as permanent elongation and tracking problems.
It is available in a 235 lb*. rated
fabric. The
KODIAK, ultimate species of the Legg Company Poly/Nylons.
* Maximum
Allowable Working Tension is based on a safety factor of 10:1 vs. actual break

RHINO®
NYLON WARP -- NYLON FILL -- PLAIN WEAVE
The RHINO incorporates an all nylon carcass for maximum performance in certain applications. Legg Co. manufactures a light weight all nylon carcass for certain applications where the characteristics of nylon are beneficial. These applications include, but are not limited to, grape harvester belts, live bottom trailers, and sandwich or telescoping systems. The high strength of nylon accompanied by its low modulus of elasticity make the increased elongation and superior bolt/fastener retention of nylon ideal for these applications. Accompanied with one of Legg Co.’s many compounds, and this belt will do what is required in these specialized applications. The RHINO is available in a 75 lb*. rated fabric.
