The "TRANSITION" is the distance from the terminal pulley to the final troughing angle idler.  In the transition area it is allowable to trough the belt directly to a 20o troughing idler if the belt can run unsupported until the minimum transition length is met.  If not, custom or special 10o idler(s) may be required.  However, in a 35o or 45o troughed conveyor you should step up the troughing using first 20o idlers, in the case of a 35o conveyor, and both 20o and 35o idlers in a 45o conveyor.  These idlers should be proportionately spaced between the final troughing angle idler and the terminal pulley.  In other words, allow for a gradual troughing of the belt while supporting the load.

Below you will find two tables.  Table "A" is for a "Half Troughed Transition" (Diagram 1).  This is where the terminal pulley face is located on a plain half the distance from the face of the bottom idler roller and the top of the side angled roller.  This is the recommended configuration for most conveyors.  A "Full Toughed Transition" (Diagram 2) is when the terminal pulley face is in line with the face of the bottom idler roller, in which case use Table "B".  This type of conveyor setup requires a greater transition length and more incremental, or gradual, troughing transition idlers.
